BRIEF: 1 dead, 2 injured in South Side high-rise fire

Dec. 12--Three people were injured, one fatally in a high-rise fire on the South Side Thursday evening, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 7:40 p.m. on the 700 block of East 69th Street in the Park Manor neighborhood, according to Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Juan Hernandez.

Two women were in fair-to-serious condition. A 74-year-old woman was taken to St. Bernard Hospital while the second woman was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital.

Hernandez said a third person was dead at the scene. Officials said the building housed senior citizens.

According to the Cook County medical examiner's office the fatality was a 51-year-old man. Firefighters told reporters at the scene the man was in a wheelchair.

No other details were immediately available.
