Jan. 19--A 20-year-old man was killed and two others were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash Monday on the Northwest Side, police said.
About 7:25 p.m., a 19-year-old man driving a BMW north in the 5100 block of North Nagle Avenue rear-ended a car that was stopped in traffic, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
That forced the car into two other vehicles, and the BMW hit a tree.
The 19-year-old driver and his 20-year-old passenger were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The passenger was pronounced dead. The driver's injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and charges against him are pending, Sedevic said.
Authorities identified the 20-year-old who died as Marion Mario Tahiraj, of the 4200 block of North Meade Avenue in Chicago.
The driver of the car that was rear-ended, a 35-year-old man, also was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. His condition was stabilized.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, according to a law enforcement source.
Police initially said the crash occurred in the southbound lanes, just one person was injured, and he was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. That information was later corrected.
