BRIEF: 1 dead, 1 injured in South Chicago, East Chatham shootings

March 21--One man was killed and another wounded in shootings on the South Side late Friday afternoon, police said.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the head and declared dead at the scene at 4:25 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Houston Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was on the street when a gray SUV approached and someone jumped out and began shooting, hitting the man, Zala said.

The man was later identified as Terrell Foster, of 8000 block of South Exchange Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

About 4:45 p.m., a man was shot in the 8100 block of South Drexel Avenue in the East Chatham neighborhood, Zala said. He was wounded in the abdomen and left hand in what may have been a drive-by shooting, Zala said. The man was in serious condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
