1 killed, 3 wounded in shootings in Chicago since Tuesday

Sept. 30--A man was killed and three other men were wounded in shootings on the South and Southwest sides Tuesday afternoon and evening, police said.

In the fatal shooting, a 29-year-old man was hit by gunfire around 3:55 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Exchange Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.

The man, identified as Timothy Jones of the 1600 block of East 67th Street, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene at 4:10 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police said an unknown attacker walked up to Jones and fired several shots.

No other details were available.

Other shootings:

--A 26-year-old man was wounded around 9:45 p.m. in the Gage Park neighborhood on the South Side, according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was standing on the sidewalk in the 5100 block of South Homan Avenue when a gunman came out of a light-colored SUV and fired, Alfaro said.

The 26-year-old was shot in the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

--About 6:45 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the 5000 block of West Crystal Street in the Austin neighborhood, police said.

The man was outside walking when he heard gunshots. The man was hit in the right ankle and went to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Alfaro said. He was treated and released.

--At 3:05 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the 2600 block of South Central Park Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood, police said.

The man was wounded in the foot and went to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in good condition, police said.

No one was in custody in any of the shootings.
