Dec. 07--Two people were killed and at least 12 others have been wounded in shootings since Saturday morning, police said.
In the most recent fatal shooting, which happened at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, a 29-year-old man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, said the Cook County medical examiner's office and police.
The 29-year-old was in a car in the 1000 block of West 50th Street when he was shot multiple times, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 7:11 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office. He was identified as Brandon Miles of the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue, according to the medical examiner's office.
The car was stopped facing east on 50th Street. A young woman in a brown jacket spoke to a police lieutenant through her sobs.
"They just came right up here and shot," she said. She gestured along the street and then turned to the ambulance with the man inside. "Just let me in there! Just let me in there!"
Another fatal shooting happened about 7:05 a.m. Saturday in the 800 block of North Avers Avenue in the city's East Garfield Park neighborhood, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
A 25-year-old man was found unresponsive in a car, police said. He had been shot multiple times in the chest, abdomen and legs and was dead on the scene.
The man was later identified as Frankie Gutierrez of the 6900 block of West Medill Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy conducted Sunday determined that he died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.
In other shootings:
At 7 p.m. Saturday, a man was shot at a bus stop in the 3300 block of West 79th Street in the Ashburn neighborhood, authorities said.
A nearby shop owner was closing for the night when someone with a gun approached and tried to rob him. The shop owner, who has a valid concealed carry license, pulled out his weapon, and the two began to shoot at each other.
During the exchange of gunfire, a 27-year-old man at a bus stop across the street was shot in the chest. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and his condition was stabilized.
At 1:20 a.m. Sunday, three men were shot in the Noble Square neighborhood, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.
Police said all three gunshot victims had been involved in a fight at a nightclub in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. When they were outside the club, a vehicle drove past and someone inside fired shots, Alfaro said.
Two 26-year-old men were shot: one in the arm and buttocks and the other in the leg. Both were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and their conditions were stabilized.
Another man, whose age was not immediately available, took himself to Rush University Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Information was not immediately available about where he was wounded.
At 12:45 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the Chatham neighborhood, Alfaro said.
He was at a gas station in the 7800 block of South State Street when someone in a green van fired shots. He was shot in the foot and taken to St. Bernard Hospital. His condition was stabilized.
At 11:30 p.m., a 24-year-old woman was shot in the Little Village neighborhood, Alfaro said.
She was on the sidewalk in the 2900 block of West 25th Street with her boyfriend when someone fired shots from a white truck, according to authorities. She was shot in the foot and went to Mount Sinai Hospital. Her condition was stabilized.
At 11:05 p.m., a 20-year-old man also was shot in Little Village. He was at a gas station in the 2800 block of South Pulaski Road when someone in a white SUV fired shots and he was hit in the wrist, Alfaro said, citing preliminary information. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.
About 8:30 p.m., a 30-year old man was shot in the Bronzeville neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman. Preliminary information indicated he was shot in the 4800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. He took himself to University of Chicago Medical Center after being shot in the leg, police said. No further information about the circumstances of the shooting were immediately available.
At 8 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the Englewood neighborhood, Sweeney said.
He was in the 5700 block of South Union Avenue when someone exited an SUV and fired shots, police said. The boy was hit in the arm and leg and taken to Stroger Hospital. His condition was stabilized.
At 5:40 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the Bronzeville neighborhood, police said.
He was shot in the hand on the 600 block of East 46th Street and was being treated at University of Chicago hospital. No further information was immediately available.
About 6:45 a.m. Saturday, a two men were shot in the 7800 block of South Rhodes Avenue in the Chatham neighborhood, police said.
A 36-year-old man was shot in the leg and took himself to Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island. His condition was stabilized.
A 38-year-old man was also shot in the leg and took himself to University of Chicago hospital. He was treated and released.
