Oct. 09--A Morgan Park teen has been charged with murder in the death of a 25-year civilian employee of the Chicago Police Department, according to authorities.
William Cochran, 18, is charged in the Sept. 16 fatal shooting of John Buckner, according to Cook County state's attorney's office spokeswoman Sally Daly. He was scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Friday.
Cochran, along with two other people still being sought, are suspected of shooting Buckner as he unloaded groceries with his wife near his home in Morgan Park on the South Side, authorities said.
Buckner, 59, was shot at least twice in the abdomen by three teens on bicycles, police have said. A second person, a 41-year-old man, suffered a minor wound to the ear.
Police have said the shooting apparently stemmed from an earlier gang fight in a neighborhood park and they did not believe Buckner was the intended target.
Relatives said Buckner and his wife had been watching two of their grandsons, 11 and 16, at the time. Neither they nor his wife was injured.
Cochran lives on the 11300 block of South Loomis Street, about a mile from the shooting.
