Bridgwater and Burnham train stations set to close for six days for GWR timetable works

Major train stations around Bristol are set to close for six days for rail improvement works.

The work is due to take place this upcoming weekend from Saturday (November 9) until Thursday (November 14).

The work will take place between Tiverton Parkway, Taunton and Castle Cary/Weston-super-Mare.

The line between Tiverton Parkway and Castle Cary/Weston-super-Mare will be closed to trains during this period.

This means Taunton, Bridgwater and Castle Cary to Weston-super-Mare stations will be all closed to trains, Somerset Live reports.

Great Western Railway (GWR) will be running replacement buses for passengers affected and will be operating alternative routes on their network.

It's expected this could add two hours extra time to passengers journeys.

The work is all part of GWR's introduction of a new timetable system set to launch in December.

The new timetable aims to increase capacity between London Paddington and stations in the South West.

Replacement buses and alternative routes for Bristol and the South West network can be found below.

Taunton to Bristol Temple Meads

Direct buses will replace trains between Taunton and Bristol Temple Meads.

There will also be a rail replacement bus service operating between Castle Cary and Taunton/Tiverton Parkway.

Castle Cary

Trains will operate every hour between London Paddington and Castle Cary, but trains may run at different times to normal.

The station will have no step free access as all trains will only operate from platforms 2 and 3.

Bridgwater and Highbridge & Burnham

Buses will replace train services between Tiverton Parkway and Weston-super-Mare.

You'll be able to change at Weston-super-Mare for trains to Bristol and change at Tiverton Parkway for train services to the South West.

London

Journey times are expected to be extended by an hour if you're travelling between London, Reading, Westbury and Castle Cary and stations in Devon (excluding Tiverton Parkway).

There will be a direct service operating between London Paddington and Plymouth, but this will run every two hours and use an alternative route.

Different departure times are expected between Pewsey and Castle Cary.

The north to Cornwall

CrossCountry trains from the north will terminate at Bristol Temple Meads.

Passengers will have to change at Bristol Parkway for direct buses services to Tiverton Parkway.

CrossCountry services towards Exeter St Davids, Plymouth and Penzance will then resume from Tiverton Parkway.

Journey times are expected to be extended by up to two hours.
