Bridgewater School in Salford closes after staff member suffers symptoms of coronavirus

A school in Salford has closed after a staff member started 'displaying symptoms of coronavirus'.

Private Bridgewater School in Worsley said it was closing 'from immediate effect' on Monday morning so that a deep clean can be carried out.

The member of staff is not yet a confirmed case.

In a message to parents the school said: "We have this morning taken the decision that the school will close to pupils, effective immediately, as a precautionary measure to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

"A member of our academic teaching staff has informed the school that they are displaying a number of symptoms associated with the Covid-19 virus.

"The health and wellbeing of all our students and staff is, of course, our number one priority.

"We have therefore decided to close the school to students with immediate effect. This allows us to undertake a deep clean and to assess the situation further."

The notice, on the school's website and Facebook page, adds: "We know just how much disruption this will cause for all families and guardians. We have not taken this decision lightly. We hope that by taking this measure now we can ensure that all of our Bridgewater community are safe and well.

"We will send updates as soon as they become available."

The school has also cancelled its early years open morning, which was scheduled for next Tuesday.
