Bridgerton-style mansion goes up for auction in Nottinghamshire

Bridgerton fans are going to love the latest lot to appear in a Nottinghamshire auction catalogue. However, the price tag may not be as attractive.

With the new series of the popular Netflix show airing from Friday, March 25, those on the lookout for a home with a similar sense of style may have found the perfect home. It is The South Wing of Clifton Hall.

The perfect location for binge-watching the show, the auctioneers have termed the Grade I listing building to be "straight out of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers". Adding: "Any budding Daphne Bridgerton's should be sure to apply within".

However, the imposing house is certainly no work of fiction. It has a history dating to the Domesday Book and the auction house says that it is thought to be one of the most outstanding listed buildings in the area

Full of character (Nestseekers)

Nestled within Clifton Village, the property is full of character and yet has been upgraded to add a modern twist in certain rooms. Andrew Parker, managing director and auctioneer at SDL Property Auctions, said: "It is fantastic to see a property such as Clifton Hall come to auction – it really is a sight to behold and almost has to be seen to be believed".

Some amazing features (Nestseekers)

The firm added: "Stepping foot into the mansion is like being transported to the set of one of London’s high society balls." The Octagon entrance hall is a staggering 44ft high, and is one of the most spectacular features of the property, with a magnificent domed ceiling in the hall’s former watchtower.

The Great Chamber, also known as the drawing room, was completed way back in 1632. It has a breath-taking ceiling as well as the historical ‘Clifton Fireplace’ which features intricate carvings of the Clifton Family crest. It is believed that The Great Chamber once played host to musical performances, banquets, and dances – perfect for your society debut!

The property also features a Red Room (also known as the Silk Room), which was once used by Lady Clifton to hang red silks that were brought back from China and features the history of nine generations of the Clifton family.

However, the house, which is being sold at auction on behalf of Nestseekers, is ultimately a family home. with nine bedrooms in total. But all this doesn’t come cheap. The guide price is a staggering £1,950,000+ plus fees, so not your usual auction property.

Andrew said; "At SDL Property Auctions, we pride ourselves on being able to bring any property to auction – from two-up two-down terraces to period estates such as this – it will be fascinating to see what it achieves”. The property will go to a Timed Auction on the firm's website. The auction will run until Wednesday, April 6, at 2.00pm.
