Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan sets record straight on season two filming rumours

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has shut down reports of a Covid-19 outbreak stalling filming this week - saying ‘it’s not true’.

Production began on season two of the Netflix drama in the spring, but was forced to shut down twice in July due to COVID-19.

And despite reports of another shut down at the weekend, the Derry Girls star, who plays Penelope Featherington aka Lady Whistledown in the hit Netflix series, dismissed the rumours.

Responding to a fan who said: “NOOOOO, for God sake. @nicolacoughlan tell me this isn’t true”, the Galway born star said: “It’s not true.”

From Shondaland and creator Chris Van Dusen, the series is inspired by Julia Quinn’s best-selling novels.

Season one follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market.

And like the books, season two will move on from Daphne and the Duke of Hastings' love story and instead follow the story of her brother Lord Anthony Bridgerton.

Sex Education star Simone Ashley will be joining the star studded cast as his love interest, Kate Sharma.

Confirming season two, Netflix said: “This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season.

“I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities.

“However, gentle reader, before you set the comments section alight with requests for more sordid details, know that I am disinclined to report on the particulars at this time.

“Patience, after all, is a virtue.”

Coughlan admitted she struggled not to spoil the plot twist about her identity as Lady Whistleton, as she is narrated by Dame Julie Andrews in the series.

The 34-year-old told the Radio Times: “I couldn’t keep it in that Julie Andrews and I were playing the same role!

“My friends get really livid with me for spoiling the things I’m in – I’m like, ‘Do you really want to know?’

“I let them try to take the responsibility into their own hands.”
