After the first season took over our lives in 2020, Bridgerton is set to return to Netflix for its second instalment.
Adapted from Julia Quinn’s bestselling series of novels of the same name, the eight-episode first season was met with lots of love and positive reviews.
The new season of Shonda Rhimes produced show helmed by Chris Van Dusen is expected to focus on Anthony Bridgerton, alongside a brand new heroine.
The show wrapped filming last November with Van Dusen tweeting: "That’s a wrap on Season Two! So proud of this cast and crew who brought their A-games to work each and every day in this very challenging year. And these two in this photo with me right here. Words are not enough. Coming in [flame emojis] in 2022 #Bridgerton #SeasonTwo #BuckleUp ."
Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming season of Bridgerton.
What is the storyline of Bridgerton Season 2?

Season two of Bridgerton will focus on Lord Anthony Bridgerton and his new love interest. If the show follows the books, the second series will be adapted from the novel The Viscount Who Loved Me, which is about Lord Anthony and Kate Sheffield (renamed Kate Sharma in the show).
Showrunner Van Dusen previously revealed to Collider : "The first season was primarily about Daphne and her love story with Simon. But, this being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure."
The upcoming season might also have lots of flashback scenes since Rupert Evans has been cast as Edmund Bridgerton, the father of the Bridgerton children, who died before the events of season one.
It's also hoped that the season will pick up where season one left off, especially since the finale episode last season ended with a voiceover from “Lady Whistledown” (voiced by Julie Andrews) telling viewers at the end of the episode: "Of course, there are other endings that will offer new beginnings."
Who is in the cast of Bridgerton?

Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton) will be the main star of the second season, alongside Simone Ashley as his potential bride (Kate Sharma).
Newcomer Charithra Chandran will play Kate's sister Edwina Sharma, while Shelly Conn joins the cast as the girls' mother Lady Mary Sharma.
Also, joining the cast is Calam Lynch as rebellious printer’s assistant Theo Sharpe, and Merlin star Rupert Young who will be essaying the role of Jack.

Season two is also expected to include Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown alongside Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Featherington) and the core cast of Claudia Jessie, Adjoa Andoh, Ruth Gemmell, and Polly Walker.
Daphne ( Phoebe Dynevor ) and Simon Basset ( Regé-Jean Page ) will no longer be the show’s main characters. While Dynevor will return to the role of Daphne as a supporting character, Page confirmed his departure as the Duke from the show in April 2021.
Someone else who won't be back is Ben Miller, who played Lord Featherington, after the untimely death of the character in season one.
It also remains to be seen if Ruby Barker will appear again as Marina Thompson, who was last seen marrying her dead lover’s brother so that her unborn child could be born in wedlock.
Will the Duke be returning for season two of Bridgerton?
Regé-Jean Page who played Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings confirmed he won’t be reprising his role in the period drama.
According to a report from the The Hollywood Reporter , “sources close to the show” said Page was offered an opportunity to return as a guest star in a handful of episodes in season two, for a rate of $50,000 an episode – but he declined. There was no official comment on this.
However, in an interview with British GQ in September 2021, Page did not deny the possibility of a surprise appearance, so fans will have to wait and see.
What is the release date of Bridgerton Season 2?
The launch date for the Bridgerton is widely expected to be Friday, March 25 2022.
A tweet written in the voice of Lady Whistledown teased the return of the show: "Dear readers, I know my absence has only made your hearts grow fonder; however, you will not have to wait much longer."
