Bridgerton's Adjoa Andoh explains why Rege-Jean Page's exit is 'not a surprise'

Rege-Jean Page's exit from hit Netflix show Bridgerton may have shocked fans, but his co-stars weren't so surprised.

The show's first series proved hugely popular and another series is on the horizon.

However, Rege-Jean won't be returning for the second series and co-star Adjoa Andoh admits he'll be a miss.

Adjoa, who plays Lady Danbury in the period drama, told Carissa Culiner in a Daily Pop interview: "We're following the overriding framework of Julia Quinn's beautiful novels.

"There are eight Bridgerton children: one down, seven to go. Season two it's Anthony Bridgerton so there you are. That's the arc of the show."

Adjoa plays mum to Rege-Jean's character, Duke of Hastings, and says all the cast will miss the star of the first series.

Describing him as "a friend for life," Adjoa continued: "We all love Rege and we're all going to miss Rege but it's not a huge surprise."

She revealed that he loved an argument and a discussion and says that's what she'll miss most - that and their shared love of punk music.

"He's a lovely man and he'll be my friend for life," she stated.

When asked whether she thought the show would be such a big hit, she said: "Obviously it's Shonda Rhimes' first gig with Netflix so we knew that was an amazing partnership.

"It's sort of surreal because it all blew up as we were in lockdown. So it's like, 'Hurray!' from my kitchen."

The actress went on to discuss other projects she's been involved with, including another Netflix hit, The Witcher.

She revealed that working alongside Henry Cavill is "an absolute delight".

Bridgerton may not be releasing its second series until next year, but it has already announced two more will follow.

Producer Shonda Rhimes commented: "From the first time I read Julia Quinn's delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience.

"But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team."
