Bridgerton renewed for series three and four following departure of Regé-Jean Page

Bridgerton has been renewed for season three and four despite lead actor Regé-Jean Page leaving the series.

The hit Netflix show had everyone hot and bothered with their steamy scenes between the Duke of Hastings (Regé) and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor).

Season two is currently in production and expected to air next year, and now fans have been given the good news that two more series are also on the way.

Netflix announced the good news on Twitter, stating: "Breaking news from the ton! Bridgerton is returning for seasons three *AND* four!"

Producer Shonda Rhimes revealed: "From the first time I read Julia Quinn's delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience.

"But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team."

Season two, as was previously confirmed, will focus on Daphne’s brother Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and his relationships.

The confirmation of seasons three and four comes after it was revealed that Regé won’t be in the future seasons of the series.

A post on the Bridgerton's Instagram page, in the style of Lady Whistledown's gossip column, read: "Dearest readers,

"While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton's quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Rege-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings.

"We'll miss Simon's presence on screen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.

"Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer - more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear."

Regé-Jean also confirmed the news and took to Instagram to confirm the sad news, with a photo of himself on a horse as Simon. He wrote: "The ride of a lifetime.

"It's been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family - not just on-screen, but off-screen too.

"Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans - it's all been beyond anything I could have imagined.

"The love is real and will just keep growing," he added, alongside love heart emojis.
