Bridgerton Covid outbreak halts filming of season 2 with bosses in 'crisis talks'

Bridgerton bosses are said to be in 'crisis talks' as a Covid outbreak has halted filming on its second season.

At the end of last year, there wasn't a show that attracted anywhere near as much attention as the Netflix period drama.

As soon as it was made available to watch on the streaming service, it had everyone talking, with Twitter awash with viewer reactions as they lapped up its cast, plot, costumes, locations and some rather steamy scenes.

The minute Lady Whistledown herself announced on Bridgerton's social channels that a second season would be following, anticipation went through the roof.

But we may have to wait a little longer for it, as on Friday's Lorraine, resident TV correspondent Rhia Hebden confirmed production had been hit by positive coronavirus cases amongst the crew.

After Lorraine talked about the amount of people being 'pinged' on the NHS Covid app and having to isolate, Rhia told her: "So the second series of Bridgeerton has been halted because some of the production have tested positive for Covid.

"it's such a shame. Apparently the production team are in crisis talks this morning about when they can resume filming."

She added: "I imagine Netflix bosses are quite nervous, because this month they are filming The Crown series 5 as well, so there's real worry this is going to affect all those productions."

Bridgerton's Covid outbreak comes as fans were left devastated by the news that the much loved Duke of Hastings would not be back for season 2.

His exit was confirmed in a social media post penned by Lady Whistledown, which read: "While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we big adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings.

"We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.

"Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear."
