The cast of Bridgerton has responded to the news that the show is Netflix’s most popular original series ever.

The streaming giant announced on Wednesday (27 January) that Bridgerton was watched by more than 82 million accounts within its first month of being released on Christmas Day last year.

Regé-Jean Page – who stars as Simon Bassett aka The Duke of Hastings – has since reacted to the news on Instagram, sharing a post captioned: “8 2 M I L L I O N with love from all of us to all of you.”

Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton, also took to social media to share her excitement in a post that reads: “This is utterly insane. I’m SO proud of the incredible team behind this show!”

The 25-year-old added: “And thank you guys for loving it. MADNESS.”

“Bridgerton is now officially Netflix’s biggest ever series, I don’t even know what to say thank you all so much,” added Nicola Coughlan, who stars Penelope Featherington.

Her co-star Jonathan Bailey, who portrays Daphne’s brother Andrew Bridgerton, also shared an Instagram Story with his followers. Addressing the show’s fans, Bailey wrote: “Welcome to the family. All 82 million of you.”

Bridgerton has now surpassed the last record-breaking programme on Netflix, with The Witcher having amassed 76 million views in its first 28 days after release.

Based on Julia Quinn’s series of historical romance novels, the show follows the young men and women of London’s high society as they enter the marriage market for the first time.

The eight-part series is created by Shonda Rhimes’ production outlet Shondaland as part of the Grey’s Anatomy writer’s new deal with Netflix.
