Bridge at Ayrshire beach closed to due to safety reasons

A bridge at an Ayrshire beach has been closed due to safety reasons.

The footbridge at Stevenston beach was damaged by water during heavy rainfall.

North Ayrshire Council say they're investigating the exact cause of the damage and repair options.

The bridge near the car park has been closed to the public in the meantime and the public have been advised to use an alternative footbridge a short distance away.

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “The bridge is currently closed as a safety precaution and we are investigating the cause of the damage, while also looking into future repair options.

“We are also examining environmental and flooding-related issues in the area as part of this work.

“The advice to anyone visiting the beach is to use the alternative footbridge, which is to the north-west of the one that has been shut off.”
