Bride slammed for demanding step-daughter, nine, wear Spanx to her wedding

A bride-to-be has sparked outrage after she asked her step-daughter to wear shapewear to her wedding.

The anonymous woman explained that she was struggling to find a dress for her soon-to-be step-daughter to wear for her wedding because "nothing fit" the nine-year-old.

So, she took to Facebook to ask for suggestions on where to find a dress - and evidently, she found one.

"She’s a thick girl. I have tried 'big girl youth sizes' and nothing fits her.

"I can’t really go to her mum because (of) the typical new woman situation," she wrote.

The step-mum finally found a dress she liked, but the only problem was that it didn't fit.

With only five days until her wedding, the woman was running out of time.

So instead of buying a new dress, she wondered whether her step-daughter could just wear shapewear, returning to Facebook once again to pose her dilemma.

She wrote: "Definitely not a body-shaming post, but how do y’all feel about a nine-year-old wearing a body shaper (girdle).

“She’s a plus-size kid. And her dress is a little snug. I figured why not try a body shaper to smooth out some of the edges to give that perfect fit.

“The dress cannot be taken out. And it is only snug in the waist area. Everything else fits perfectly. Wedding is five days away.”

After being shared, the bride received a lot of criticism from fellow group users, which, according to Kidspot caused her to delete her plea.

Whilst a few people said she should just buy another dress that fits the little girl properly, others were just horrified.

One person said: "She’s nine. It’s never OK to put a child in Spanx - ever. End of story."

Whilst another wrote: "I can’t even begin to imagine the long term ramifications that are going to have on that child. I want to cry."

However, one person tried to defend the original poster by saying that she didn't think that wearing shapewear was a big deal - but they were wildly criticised too.

Do you think the bride was in the wrong to suggest shapewear? Let us know in the comments.
