Bride plans to 'demote' bridesmaids after they bail on hen do

Planning a wedding is complicated and time-consuming, and then there's the hen do to think of.

Many women are excited to spend some time with their friends ahead of their upcoming nuptials. These pre-wedding celebrations can vary from going out to dinner, to a week away in another country, and everything in between.

Often planned by the chief bridesmaid, all other bridesmaids are usually in attendance. But one woman has been left disappointed after finding out three of her six bridesmaids are not going to her hen party.

The bride-to-be took to Mumsnet to share her upset. She said: "I have six bridesmaids and have just found out that three of them aren’t coming to my hen do.

"One reason is because they don’t drink (but are ok in drinking situations). Two, because of the money (yet they go away 3/4 times a year and are a blood relative), and the other one hasn’t given a reason but I've known her for 20 odd years, and she is going away for another wedding abroad the following month.

"Am I ok for being annoyed? Would you demote bridesmaids for not being there for you or am I overreacting?"

Some thought her bridesmaids were out of order, with one parent saying: "I think this is very shabby of them. They are supposed to be arranging it, never mind showing up."

Another said: "That's very poor show tbh - even if you can't afford the whole hen package/day, you make an effort to join in for some of it." [sic]. And a third said: "Sounds like they've gone back on an agreement which is a bit shabby".

Others thought the bride was in the wrong. One said: "You are being unreasonable purely for having 6 bridesmaids!", while another said: "Your wedding is important to you, but it’s not the main thing in other people’s lives and you can’t expect them to prioritise a hen do".
