So much goes into preparing a dream wedding: the outfits, the music, the location, the food, the entertainment, the aesthetic of it all.
And in the whirlwind of stress on the day itself, it’s honestly a wonder if everything goes according to plan.
In fact, according to one UK survey, 30% of married couples said something went wrong on their wedding day.
Though, chances are, they didn’t face a disaster like the bride at the center of this story—props to her for handling it all like a pro.
You can’t predict what forces of the universe might try to trip you up, but you can try to minimize potential damage. Here’s how, according to experts.
Wedding photographer Tori Parker says to first accept that your wedding will most likely be chaotic.
Instead of stressing over every little detail, try to embrace the chaos and remember why you’re getting married. That mindset will take off some of the pressure to be perfect.
Singapore Brides recommends planning for unforeseen circumstances as much as possible ahead of time.
This includes using checklists to stay organized and on track with tasks and deadlines.
“Don’t forget to create a detailed timeline of your wedding day, from setup to ceremony and reception, with names and contact details of the vendors required, and share this with the key parties involved in overseeing the coordination on the day of,” they say.
Parker also recommends having backup plans for things outside your control.
For example, weather is one of the biggest variables. You might book your venue a year or more in advance, but you can’t guarantee sunshine.
“Talk to your vendors ahead of time about plans so you’re prepared for any curveballs that come your way,” she says.
If there’s anything the bride in this story taught us, it’s the power of flexibility.
Parker agrees it’s one of the most important parts of your wedding day.
“Things may not go exactly as planned, but being able to adapt and go with the flow will make the day much more enjoyable. It’s all about attitude—if you approach the unexpected with a positive mindset, it’ll be much easier to handle,” she says.
