Bride dislocates shoulder in dance contest with husband in wedding day disaster

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something black and blue!

Bride Evelyn McCool lies on a stretcher after dislocating her shoulder in a dance contest with hubby Peter McCappin at their wedding.

She says: “Before midnight, the band announced a bride and groom dance-off. Tossing my wedding train over my left arm and cheered by guests, I gave it all I had. Peter is competitive but I was not going to let him win.”

IT worker Evelyn slipped, put out her left arm to break her fall and knew instantly she was in trouble.

She adds: “My shoulder was just hanging there. In a panic, I moved as fast as I could into the corridor, clutching my useless arm with my right hand.

“The hospital staff were lovely. One nurse popped in from another ward to congratulate me and others asked if they could lift the blanket to see my dress!”

The couple left hospital at 5am. It was a painful end to an otherwise perfect wedding day that had been delayed by the pandemic.

And Peter, 41, caught Covid just a fortnight before the ceremony.

Evelyn and her fellow IT worker hubby can now see the funny side of what happened. Evelyn, of Moira, near Belfast, adds: “Everyone wants a memorable big day… ours really was.”
