A bride celebrating her new marriage managed to break both her feet on her wedding night while dancing to B*Witched’s "C’est La Vie."
Lyndsey Henderson, 30, thought she’d perfected the moves to the hit 90’s song during her wedding reception in Santorini, Greece, when she performed them alongside her 100 guests.
However, the bride realised she wasn’t as smooth on her feet as she’d thought when she attempted to dance to the song during her second wedding reception at Cadbury’s Factory in Birmingham.
When Henderson added a spontaneous jump to her dance moves, she landed on the sides of her feet causing a hairline fracture in her right foot and three broken bones in her left foot - unbeknownst to her.
“It was around 11pm and the DJ put the song on and I was doing my best Michael Flatley with all my bridesmaids,” Henderson recalled. “I just went absolutely crazy as it’s one of my favourite songs and was the first one I bought on cassette in 1998.
“Then when I went a bit freestyle I managed to jump up and land on the sides of my feet.
“At first I didn’t realise what had happened. I noticed I landed funny but didn’t give it a second thought. I kept on dancing for another six songs and even had a dance with my dad to "Wonderful Tonight" afterwards.”
It wasn’t until the next day that the newlywed realised something was off with her foot - but she assumed it was just a sprain.
Two days after the wedding, Henderson, a primary school teacher from Longbridge, Birmingham sought a second opinion at the hospital - where she learned she’d broken both feet and would need to wear two casts for the next six weeks.
Fortunately, Henderson’s injuries won’t ruin the couple’s upcoming honeymoon to Barbados as they won’t be leaving until next April - and it’s made for an amusing and memorable story to tell.
“We spent two-and-a-half years planning it all, had the perfect wedding in Santorini, a great wedding reception and this is how it ended up. But it could have been worse and I find it quite funny,” the 30-year-old said.
As for her new husband’s reaction, Henderson said he’s been great about taking care of her while she heals.
“After all, our vows did say in sickness and in health.”
