Bricker investigation continues in Wyoming

Jan. 16--Despite the death last week of a longtime Winnetka teacher who had been accused of sex crimes against children in Wyoming, authorities there have not suspended their investigation.

Law enforcement officials in Teton County, Wyo., said they continue to probe whether other people were told about allegations of child sexual abuse against Bill Bricker and failed to report them to police.

There are "still aspects of the case that remain under investigation," said Detective Dani Spence with the Teton County Sheriff's Office. "The case is intertwined with potentially other charges against (other people) regarding their duty to report the allegations against Bricker."

Spence declined to specify the subjects of the investigation.

Bricker, who spent nearly four decades as a physical education teacher at Hubbard Woods School in Winnetka and as a local Boy Scout leader, was charged last year with molesting two boys and a girl at Wyoming's Teton Valley Ranch Camp, where he worked as a counselor in the summers. Bricker died Jan. 9 at age 94 while he was fighting extradition to Wyoming from his home in northern Michigan.

Spence said any additional charges related to the case would likely involve those who might have been alerted to claims about Bricker and would have been required under Wyoming laws to report those claims to authorities, whether or not they were found to be true.

Three former directors of the camp informed authorities who were investigating Bricker last year that former campers had told them in the late 1990s that Bricker had molested them, according to the criminal complaint against Bricker.
