Brick thrown through window of hotel housing asylum seekers in Falkirk

A BRICK has been thrown through the window of a hotel housing asylum seekers in Falkirk.

The attack on the Cladhan Hotel occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning and is being investigated by police.

There have been several protests held by the Save Our Future and Our Kids Future group outside the hotel in recent weeks, including one on Sunday where Patriotic Alternative member Richard McFarlane was given a platform to speak.

The group clashed with counter-protesters from Stand Up to Racism Scotland and Falkirk Trades Union Council.

In a statement on Facebook, community group Falkirk For All posted: "Last night, a brick was thrown through a window at the Cladhan. This is clearly an attempt to intimidate our neighbours in the asylum system. Thankfully no-one was injured, and the incident has been referred to the police.

"This act of intimidation is unacceptable and should be universally condemned by all groups, but it does not happen in isolation.

"Rising anti-immigration rhetoric is fuelling hostility and creating an environment where such actions take place. Everyone has the right to feel safe in our community, and actions like this bring our town into disrepute.

"If you truly believe in community safety and what is best for Falkirk, then you should do more than just distance yourself from such actions. We call upon Save Our Future & Our Kids Futures to publicly condemn this act of violence.

"Falkirk should not, and does not, tolerate these targeted attacks against our community."

Last month, a coach who helped to form a cricket team of Afghan asylum seekers told the Sunday National he fears for the safety and wellbeing of players amid ongoing demonstrations outside the hotel where some of them stay.

He told how some members of the team had faced abuse while going to the shops in Falkirk town centre.

Stand Up to Racism issued a statement saying the brick attack was intended to intimidate refugees that live in the hotel.

The organisation said: "A brick was thrown into the lounge window of the Cladhan Hotel last night in a clear attempt to intimidate the refugees who are living there.

"It is another expression of the same violent behaviour that has seen Save our Future & Our Kids Futures supporters throw projectiles at anti-racists who have come out to oppose their racist intimidation.

"Following weeks of racist protest targeting refugees at the hotel, by the far-right anti-refugee group ‘Save Our Future and Our Kids Futures’ this is clearly an attempt by some to intimidate our neighbours who have fled in many case violence and the horrors of war to seek refuge and safety in this country."

Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.05am on Tuesday, 9 September, 2025, we were called to a report of a window being broken at a premises on Kemper Avenue, Falkirk.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
