Brian Westbrook on the Eagles being “exposed”; Needing their “leaders’ to step-up

Former Eagles great Brian Westbrook was not a fan of the teams’ lackluster performance against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. Westbrook was promoting a partnership with Pampers when the topic of the Eagles locker room implosion was brought up.

Over the past week, you’ve had an anonymous Eagles player question Carson Wentz, Lane Johnson’ revealed that players are late to practice and meetings, while Doug Pederson has been accused of losing the locker room.

While sitting down with CBS Sports, Westbrook says the Eagles need to “squash’ whatever’s brewing in the locker room while calling on leaders to step up and take action.

“It’s going to take an awful lot of pulling together,” says the former running back, speaking with CBS Sports. “The first priority is coming together. The guys that have been around, that have been in the league, they have to step up and stop the nonsense and show everyone how to be professionals.”

“I’m a little bit concerned,” he explains, “because they have some problems on the field — lack of talent, lack of energy, lack of effort on some levels. The best players didn’t play well. They were beaten in the trenches on both sides of the ball … But then the bad part that you can’t do anything about is the lack of talent.”

Westbrook didn’t pull any punches, naming the wide receivers, cornerbacks and the defensive line as the Eagles weakest links and groups that have, for the most part, have been exposed.

“You go into the season saying they’ve got one of the deepest rosters in the NFL,” he says, “and we’ve seen, with injuries, that’s been exposed.”

Westbrook went on to say that the Birds can turn their season around, starting with Buffalo in week eight. He was also hesitant to put complete trust in this team having the mental makeup to get things turned around.
