Brian Schottenheimer ‘more at ease’ with Will Dissly on the field

The Seattle Seahawks have suffered multiple injuries at their tight end position this preseason. However, one player who hasn’t suffered from any injuries lately – somewhat surprisingly – is Will Dissly.

Dissly suffered a torn patellar tendon in the first quarter of Seattle’s Week 4 victory over the Cardinals, an injury that frequently takes an entire year for players to recover from.

Now, nearly 11 months to the day after he got injured, Dissly is healthy and rearing to go. Although he sat out in Thursday’s preseason opener, coach Pete Carroll made it clear that he could have gone, they are just being extra precautious with their No. 1 tight end.

Dissly’s remarkable recovery from his knee injury may have surprised a lot of fans, but it wasn’t surprising to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

“Nothing surprises me about Will,” Schottenheimer commented on Tuesday. “It’s great to see him out there.”

Schottenheimer echoed Carroll’s comments about being precautious with Dissly, but he had high praise for the 23-year-old.

“Just an unbelievable competitor, a great player, can do so many different things,” Schottenheimer continued. “I am more at ease when he’s out there, so it’s great to see him out there.”

Dissly is expected to lock down the starting job at tight end this season – assuming he remains healthy – and comments like that from Schottenheimer only solidify how much of an impact he has made in his short time in the Emerald City.
