Brian Rice will be Accies boss even in relegation, says chairman

Hamilton chairman Allan Maitland says Brian Rice's new rolling contract means he will be manager, even if the club is relegated from the Premiership.

Rice and coaches Guillaume Beuzelin and Brian Potter have all been rewarded with rolling contracts, meaning they are tied to the club for the foreseeable future.

Maitland said: "I'm delighted to say that, after much discussions with our staff, Pottsy Beuzy and Brian, that we have renewed their contracts at this stage of the season.

"There was an element of uncertainty because the contracts were due to expire, but I've been discussing it with them for a couple of months and I'm delighted to say that all three have agreed to sign a rolling contract, which alleviates the worry about when is the next one ending, etc.

"All three have signed rolling contracts, and their futures are secure at the club.

"I know it seems for some people to be strange timing, but this is a strange club and we like to do things differently here.

"We're in a situation where I think our staff have been magnificent, I think the players have been magnificent, and the spirit of the club despite the injuries, despite the Covid issues, has been fantastic.

"We're still in here fighting to avoid relegation if that's possible, but even if we do get relegated it won't make any difference to our coaching staff and our management staff, going forward.

"I think they've been fantastic they've managed to inspire a spirit at the club which is synonymous with Hamilton Accies, and I'm looking for that to continue in years to come.

"I think it's a coup for us to manage to get Brian, Beuzy and Pottsy to sign their contracts. If the club is relegated maybe all three would like to move on, but all three of them are committed to this club and I'm delighted to announce that today."

Maitland added: "I think stability is a big thing, but earlier in the season when we were struggling, I spoke to Brian and Beuzy at the time and said if I was starting on Monday and looking for a new manager, you'd be our guy.

"I want to commit to them.

"It gives Brian an element of security that might be a worry for him - I don't know if it is - but this club is different from other clubs and I want people to recognise how we support our staff.

Maitland hopes the new deals will give Accies an edge in their battle (SNS Group)

"I hope these deals give the players a boost. If you've been at our games recently you would see that our players can't give any more than they're giving, they've been fantastic, so if we can find an extra five per cent from somewhere and that makes a difference, that's great.

"If we can get a wee bounce of the ball and a bit of luck, that's also great.

"But the spirit that the staff have managed to create in the team and in the players has been brilliant."
