Brian Rice hopes Hamilton points can be perfect Christmas gift for suffering fans

Boss Brian Rice is hoping to bring some festive cheer to suffering Hamilton Accies fans this week with some vital points in time for Christmas.

On Saturday Rice’s side head to Dingwall in a bottom of the table clash away to Ross County before hosting Livingston on December 23.

Accies will be looking to bounce back after a heavy 4-0 defeat to high-flying Hibs last weekend and Rice hopes his depleted side – missing five key players through injury – can provide the perfect present for their support over the coming days.

He said: “It would be fantastic to get some results. It would be a lift for everyone and that’s our aim, to make everyone’s Christmas as best as we can make it.

“We need to try and start that on Saturday.

“It’s always a busy time at Christmas, a hectic schedule, and it is going to be taxing on the squad.

“We’ve got five missing this week instead of six, with Hakeem [Odoffin] back from suspension, but we’ve still got Lewis Smith and David Templeton out long-term, Marios [Ogkmpoe] is getting an operation and Will Collar and Shaun Want are out.

“Going into any game when Hamilton as a club have got five starters missing, it’s massive for us, but it means there’s an opportunity for other people.”

Eleventh place Accies will be hoping to pile the misery on Stuart Kettlewell’s County, who are on a run of nine games without a win.

But having lost 1-0 at home to the Staggies earlier in the season, Rice is expecting another clash of fine margins in the Highlands.

He added: “It’s a bottom of the league clash – but it is December.

“We are not even halfway through the season yet, but someone has to bottom.

“We are hoping to get back to how we defended in the last few games [against Aberdeen and Kilmarnock].

“We’ve got to concentrate on one game at a time and don’t look too far ahead.

“I know the threats Ross County will pose, I’ve seen them enough, but my thoughts are mostly on how we will perform.

“I think it will be a really tight game.

“There aren’t many games when you play teams around you in the league that there’s big margins. It’s small margins and we just hope we can get the result.”
