Brian Packham in health and safety blunder on Coronation Street

Brian Packham made a health and safety blunder in tonight's Coronation Street when he tucked into his favourite sweets.

The blundering Corrie newsagent was using his hands to scoop cola cubes and eat them straight from the jar behind the counter - and he carried on delving into the jar after handling money in the till.

Neighbour Abi Franklin looked less than impressed when the owner of The Kabin offered her a sweet from the same jar he'd just had his hands in.

And she told him: "You've got a major problem with them. You're getting through a jar a day right?

"Give it a month and you'll be mainlining sherbet dip."

Coronation Street casts Jane Hazlegrove as Gemma Winter's mum

A sheepish-looking Brian screwed the lid back on the jar and put it down, but let's hope he doesn't serve the sweets to anyone else.

The NHS says people should wash their hands before handling food to properly remove dirt, viruses and bacteria.

Financial comparison website money.co.uk recently teamed up with the London Metropolitan University to see just how dirty our money is and found coins and notes are laden with different bacteria, including life-threatening bugs.

Nineteen different bacteria were found across UK coins and notes including two life-threatening bacteria associated with antibiotic resistant superbugs staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and enterococcus faecium (VRE).

The life-threatening airborne bacteria Listeria was also found.

Are Maria and Tyrone about to have an affair on Coronation Street?

Brian, the former headteacher of Bessie Street School who returned to teaching last year, was revealed as the new owner of the Kabin earlier this year after becoming exhausted after being bullied by deputy head Phil and forced to rewrite the school nativity
