Brian Ortega vs. Chan Sung Jung to headline UFC on ESPN+ 23 in South Korea

A collision between two former featherweight title challengers is set to headline the UFC’s return to South Korea.

Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung will return to action when they square off Dec. 21 at UFC on ESPN+ 23 in Busan, the promotion announced Monday.

Ortega (14-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC), 28, has not competed since his UFC 231 main event loss to featherweight champion Max Holloway. The contest was halted in between the fourth and fifth rounds after Ortega had absorbed a tremendous amount of damage inflicted by the Hawaiian.

Prior to the Holloway fight, Ortega finished six straight opponents, including the likes of former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and former WEC title challenger Cub Swanson.

His upcoming opponent, Jung, made quick work of Renato Moicano in his most recent fight last June at UFC on ESPN+ 12. It took “The Korean Zombie” just 58 seconds to finish the Brazilian in the first round of their main event.

Jung (15-5 MMA, 5-4 UFC) has split his last four outings and has competed just three times since he got a crack at former champ Jose Aldo’s title in August 2013.

The current UFC on ESPN+ 23 lineup is as follows:

  • Brian Ortega vs. Chan Sung Jung
  • Volkan Oezdemir vs. Alexander Rakic
  • Alexandre Pantoja vs. Matt Schnell
