Brian Laudrup rings Rangers Europa League alarm as Slavia scouting mission leaves him on edge

Rangers icon Brian Laudrup believes rising Slavia Prague star Abdallah Sima is the danger man capable of stopping his former team reaching the quarter finals of the Europa League.

Excitement is building ahead of Thursday with the tie delicately poised after last week's 1-1 first leg in the Eden Arena that has both sides dreaming of a place in the last eight.

And the legendary Danish winger has an inside track on the opponents and watched them closely in their 2-0 victory against Brendan Rodgers' Leicester.

Laudrup was left seriously impressed by their last away day in Britain and believes they will cause Rangers problems on Thursday night.

But the 52-year-old wants Steven Gerrard 's key attacking stars to feel emboldened and use their creative spark to break down Slavia and leave Sima in the shade.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "I was working for Danish television when Slavia beat Leicester City 2-0 at the King Power Stadium last month after a goalless first-leg draw in Prague.

"That result against Brendan Rodgers' high-flying Premier League side was a warning sign for everyone in Europe that Slavia are a very good team.

"Most of us would have expected Leicester to finish the job at home, but on the night Slavia were just so clever.

"They have a good record at home but it was clear against Leicester that they can be just as good on their travels and maybe even better.

"They have players who can do real damage in the likes of Abdallah Sima and Nicolae Stanciu. Sima, in particular, is a wonderful player.

"He is only 19 years of age, but is very good in the air and can take players on.

"He's quick and is scoring for fun in the Czech league. He maybe wasn't at his best in the first leg but if he reaches top form, it's going to be a tough night for Gerrard's defence.

"Rangers obviously have the upper hand, due to Filip Helander's away goal, but I do think it will go right down to the wire on Thursday.

"I felt that Rangers' performance at the start of the first half last week was perhaps a little poor in terms of the quality we all know they possess.

"Slavia could have been 2-0 ahead when Stanciu had a chance to get his second of the night and Rangers were initially not aggressive enough.

"But I'm sure Gerrard's side will get right in their faces at Ibrox. If they do, they have the quality to unlock the Slavia defence and get the goals.

"Leicester did not really trouble them at the King Power, but Rangers have players who can unsettle a very good unit, which the Czech side's defence undoubtedly are.

"I'm looking at players such as Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo, people who can take opponents on and make things happen."
