Brian Laudrup delivers wicked Rangers one-liner as he remembers Erik Bo Andersen's one night in heaven

Rangers icon Brian Laudrup has confessed he thought a fever had removed him from his senses when Erik Bo Andersen bagged a double to sink Celtic.

The big Danish striker struggled mightily at Ibrox but for one night he was the hero of Govan as his brace all-but ended Celtic 's title dreams during the 96/97 season.

Tommy Burns' side were emboldened by the fact Laudrup was missing from the starting XI due to the flu as they went in search of all the three points in the Ne'er Day derby.

But it wasn't to be as Andersen's heroics had Walter Smith racing down the touchline to join in with the jubilant celebrations.

And 51-year-old Laudrup admits he was reaching for the thermometer when his compatriot climbed off the bench to secure a 3-1 win at Ibrox.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "In my time at Rangers, the New Year derby was always a pretty good barometer of the title race. The only one we lost was the season in which we couldn't make ten in a row.

"There were a couple of draws in my first two years, including one at Celtic Park when Andy Goram was magnificent. Then I actually missed the game in the nine-in-a-row campaign because of a flu bug. I was stuck at home watching it on television, feeling terrible.

"All of a sudden, Erik Bo Andersen came on and scored twice in the final 10 minutes for Rangers to win 3-1. I thought it was my fever haze!

"No, I'm only kidding. It was an absolutely incredible moment for a player who had some difficult times as well.

"People still talk about it 23 years on and that memory can never be taken away.

"Walter Smith's reaction that night was something else, too. I think it was the only time I ever saw the gaffer run down the touchline in celebration.

"It just shows you the emotion of these games. And the heroes they can make.

"Saturday has the potential to write another enduring story."
