Rangers icon Brian Laudrup reckons the Light Blues can "edge out" Red Star Belgrade despite having to face the heat of the Marakana.
The Gers take on the Serbians in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash at Ibrox tomorrow night before heading out to Belgrade for the return leg next week.
There they will be greeted by the "intensity" of the Marakana.
However, Laudrup believes Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men can cope with the atmosphere despite the Dane admitting the colour drained from his face when he turned out there for Bayern Munich in 1991.
In his Daily Mail column, the 53-year-old reflected: "I could feel just a little bit of the colour draining from my face. After walking through the very long, narrow tunnel, I was trying to take in a scene unlike anything I'd witnessed before.
"Welcome to the Marakana in Belgrade. Wow. Even now, more than 30 years on, I can still feel the intensity of the atmosphere when I think about it. Very few places I visited in my career came anywhere close to matching the ferocity of that place. Truly, it was something else.
"So was the match I was involved in there, but I'll come back to that bit of history in a minute. Right now, it's all about Rangers and Red Star.
"My old club has a chance to establish a lead at Ibrox on Thursday night before going to the Marakana next week for the return leg of this Europa League last-16 tie.
"It's going to be another huge test, but I actually think Rangers have built the knowhow to handle the situation. They can deliver the club's first continental quarter-final in 14 years by sticking to the qualities that have got them this far.
"This is their third season at this stage of the competition. These players have seen and done a lot in Europe. If they can find a real intensity on Thursday and keep cool heads in Belgrade then I'd back them to edge out Red Star."
Laudrup - who turned out for then Govan club from 1994-98 - insists Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men can take heart from their win over Borussia Dortmund in the last round as it proves they have the "nous" to continue deeper into the competition.
He added: "The Marakana holds about 50,000 these days, but you can bet there will still be an extraordinary atmosphere for Rangers a week on Thursday. In an ideal world, I'd rather play the first leg there, but at least Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side will know exactly what they have to do when they go to Serbia.
"These players have been to big away venues such as Feyenoord, Benfica and Porto in recent years. Not quite as volatile as Belgrade, maybe, but still big tests.
"And while there were only 10,000 people in Dortmund last month, that was as good an away result as a Scottish club has had for many, many years.
"Rangers have shown they are capable. They have the nous. And I don't think there will be any panic if it's still tight after Thursday night.
"Remember, of course, that Red Star have to handle the heat at Ibrox. This isn't all one-way. If Rangers can find the excellent levels they showed for three quarters of the Dortmund tie, their Europa League adventure can continue in the last eight. What a fine achievement that would be."
