Brian installed as new world president of Burn's Foundation

An Allanton man has been installed as world president of the leading federation on Scotland’s national Bard.

Brian Goldie is a member of Allanton Jolly Beggars Burns Club and being an expert speaker was already greatly respected.

He becomes the fifth member of the club to achieve this high office position.

The club has been running for over 60 years and has provided more world presidents than any other in Lanarkshire.

Founder member Abe Train from Newmains became the President of Lanarkshire Association and was later appointed President of the Robert Burns World Federation.

Hutcheson Sneddon, OBE,CBE,JP another former club president followed the path to presidency of the federation, as well as attaining the prestigious position of Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire.

Brian, who received numerous congratulatory messages from “a the airts”, already has a full diary of events and is booked to deliver the Immortal Memory at the Clubs Burns supper on January 11 next year.

His wife Joyce acts as schools convenor for the club and advises and supervises the continuing and successful annual schools competition.
