Brian 'Gunter' Marr: Hearts pay tribute after hugely popular kitman and 'lifelong supporter' dies

Hearts have paid tribute to popular kitman and "lifelong supporter" Brian Marr who died yesterday.

Known as 'Gunter' he worked as the Academy Kit Manager at Tynecastle, and was a "tremendous character" around the place, according to the club.

He has been involved in football across Edinburgh and Fife for decades, and also spent time at Kelty Hearts and Raith Rovers.

He was Kelty assistant manager between 1997 and 2000, and helped the club reach the Scottish Junior Cup Final in 1999.

Brian later worked as Raith Rovers kitman, from 2006 to 2015, before joining his boyhood club Hearts.

In a tribute, Hearts said: "The club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of academy kit manager and lifelong Hearts supporter Brian 'Gunter' Marr.

"Brian will be remembered as a tremendous character around the Hearts Academy and the entire Hearts community will miss his passion and love for the job, and the development of youth players.

"Brian was a Hearts man through and through and followed the team home and away without fail.

"The thoughts of everyone at Heart of Midlothian are with Brian's wife Linda, daughter Sophie and all of his other family and friends at this difficult time."

Raith added: "Raith Rovers were saddened to learn this morning that former kitman Brian Marr passed away yesterday.

"'Gunter' as he was known to all, served as kitman at the Rovers from 2006 to 2015, having been brought to the club by current manager John McGlynn in his first spell at the Rovers.

"He remained close friends with all the coaching and backroom staff from that era – catching up regularly with the manager, Paul Smith, Wayne Henderson and Gordon McEwan.

"Brian was a popular figure in the Fife football scene as a former player and manager at junior level.

"Our thoughts are with his wife Linda and daughter Sophie."
