Brian Flores wouldn’t commit to keeping the same offensive line going forward

Anybody who has watched the 2021 iteration of the Miami Dolphins can glean that a good amount of their offensive struggles stem from poor offensive line play.

The group is currently the worst-performing offensive line in the league when it comes to pass protection, and their run-blocking led to inspiring performances such as Myles Gaskin’s 34 yards on 20 attempts this past week.

Monday, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores was asked about possibly seeing Greg Little in the mix at some point, and he seemed to indicate that this was a possibility.

Then, during his media availability on Tuesday, when asked if the offensive line may see changes on a short week, the coach seemed to be open to the idea.

“Definitely a lot of conversation there,” Flores said. “We had a walk-through yesterday. We’ll have a walk-through today. Tomorrow, we’ll have a little bit more pace. We’ve had some conversations about moving some guys around. No final decisions yet, but definitely conversations being had.”

It’s a tough balancing act when there are younger, inexperienced guys on the line.

“It’s a fine line. It’s a very fine line. Young guys need reps to get better, but we also want to win and have success, so those guys need to step up and play better. We need to do a better job of coaching them and putting them in better positions to have success.”

That point’s well-taken when Austin Jackson and Liam Eichenberg are being discussed because they’ve only been in the league for a year or two. However, one of the biggest issues on the line this year has been Jesse Davis. Davis has been with the team for five years now and has played different positions. They should know what he is by now.

Even if Greg Little is not a significant upgrade at the position, it’s hard to imagine him being worse.
