Brian Flores unofficially confirms Dolphins starting offensive line

Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores met with the media this morning for his scheduled press conference. And while much of the session’s time was spent addressing Miami’s continued quarterback battle, Flores was able to drop a few notable nuggets throughout the rest of Miami’s roster.

One notable tidbit that Flores offered was regarding the offensive line — a constant source of struggle for Miami’s offense. Flores was asked this morning on if he felt the team had identified the “best five” along the line. As of late, Miami has been working with Laremy Tunsil, rookie Michael Deiter, Daniel Kilgore, rookie Shaq Calhoun and Jesse Davis along the line.

“I feel good about the five guys that are rolling (on the offensive line) right now. I think the communication is improving on a weekly basis. I think the technique, the fundamentals are improving. I think they’re working well together – guard to tackle, center to guard and then the entire group,” said Flores.

“There can always be improvement, but I like what I’ve seen from those five guys, and hopefully they’ll continue to improve; but each game is a little bit different. Each game is an experience, and hopefully we just continue to improve and get better.”

It certainly sounds as though Miami has identified its starting offensive line group, and it includes two rookies at the guard positions. It’s a logical distribution for Miami. Avoiding having two rookies playing next to one another can boost the Dolphins’ effectiveness and communication up front. And with Brian Flores all but declaring this group the starting five, the question now becomes how much better can Dieter and Calhoun become — and how quickly?
