Brian Flores “humbled” to be a part of the Miami Dolphins

When the Miami Dolphins chose Brian Flores to be their next head coach, those close to the decision talked about how “culture” was a big part of the decision. Many also referenced Brian Flores’ tough upbringing and how it made him the right man for the job.

After a few short months, it’s clear what they meant. Brian Flores has the potential to be a very powerful figure in the South Florida region — in large part because he’s so in tune to how he can help it.

This, of course, doesn’t absolve Flores from his primary initiative — to win football games. But seeing Flores extend himself as a part of Miami’s many community outreach programs — despite being a first year head coach and his mother passing away this winter? It’s inspirational.

And Flores was back on the front lines again yesterday for the Dolphins’ 23rd annual Fins Weekend. Flores spoke at the beginning of the day and he, too, seems to feel this is where he’s supposed to be.

“I’ll say this. I’ve been to a few events and every time I just kind of feel a little better, or I feel great about where I’m at. I think the things that are important to this organization from the cancer charity event to this event about education — I’m just so fortunate, I’m so blessed and I’m so humbled to be a part of this organization,” said Flores.

But Flores doesn’t want to lead himself, he wants each and every one of his players to embrace being a leader in the South Florida community.

“I talked to the players about this a lot. We’re all in leadership positions. If you’re here, you’re in a leadership position. You’re fortunate. And we’re here to serve — I think that’s what leadership is about.”

If success follows people who work hard and do the right thing, two things are clear — it’s easy to see why Brian Flores has found so much success. And it won’t be long before success follows him to South Florida.
