Brian Cox 'feels' for Alec Baldwin as he recalls his own prop gun accident

Brian Cox says he has sympathy for actor Alec Baldwin because the same thing almost happened to him.

The 75-year-old actor addressed the on-set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The mother was tragically killed, and director Joel Souza injured, when a prop gun Baldwin had been holding misfired, and fatally shot the mother-of-one on the set of his movie Rust.

The star has spoken on camera for the first time since the tragic death of his ‘friend' and says he is in constant contact with her devastated family.

Now Cox, the Emmy-winning actor who was the first to play Dr. Hannibal Lecter, has had his say.

Appearing on This Morning, he recalled the moment when he was left speechless himself as he recalls a prop gun incident earlier in his career.

He said he "burnt the guy's nose" and said the minor blank going off when he was in theatre a "horrific" moment.

Brain said it was "nothing like" when Baldwin went through last month and feels sorry for him.

He told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: "In this situation I can’t imagine the young woman had the most promising career.

"It is also tragic for Alec, for this to happen my heart completely goes out to him."

One actor the Succession star doesn't seem to have too much sympathy for is Johnny Depp.

In his new memoir Putting the Rabbit in the Hat, he took a stab at the movie great.

"Personable though I'm sure he is, Depp is so overblown, so overrated," Cox writes.

"I mean, Edward Scissorhands. Let's face it, if you come on with hands like that and pale, scarred-face make-up, you don't have to do anything. And he didn't. And subsequently, he's done even less.

"But people love him. They don't love him so much these days of course."

Baldwin has spoken on camera for the first time since the 42-year-old was tragically killed.

In video footage obtained by TMZ, Baldwin, who was with wife Hilaria Baldwin and their children, approached the photographers after he claimed they had frightened his family.

He said he is “not allowed to make any comments because it's an ongoing investigation,” and said he’d been told by the Sheriff’s Department he wasn’t able to “answer any questions”.

When quizzed about Hutchins, Baldwin said “she was my friend”, and he shared a touching detail about their on-set professional relationship.
