Brian Corcoran rejects GAA President John Horan's Cork supporters split comments

Brian Corcoran has rejected GAA president John Horan’s (inset)comments on Cork’s split support.

In justifying the CCCC’s decision to have Cork footballers and hurlers in action on separate days in Croke Park last weekend, Horan said “I think we all know the Cork football supporter will be a different cohort to the Cork hurling supporter,” a remark which wasn’t well received on Leeside.

Former Cork dual star Corcoran said: “Certain parts of west Cork would be more football than hurling but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a common support base there, particularly around the city.

“It’s expensive and if you have a family or if it’s a couple or whatever, it’s a fair expense when you build it up.

“I think it would have been great if you could have had the double header, but it wasn’t to be. But I don’t think the comment about the fans was accurate.”

Corcoran won three Munster SFC medals with Cork and while encouraged by the display against Dublin on Saturday, he’s slow to glory in a 13-point defeat.

“So there was positivity. But are you happy with a 13-point loss? Absolutely not.”
