Brian Blessed is coming to Comic Con Scotland in Edinburgh - 'The most beautiful city in the world'

Brian Blessed is coming to Edinburgh to meet fans later this year, and he's keen to shout about it.

The beloved actor and presenter will be making a rare trip north of the border in October when he attends Comic Con Scotland.

In a video shared with Edinburgh Live he says the capital is "the most beautiful city in the world" and Scotland is "God's country."

The Yorkshire-born star, famous for his booming voice, will be signing autographs and taking part in a panel discussion  on the 40th anniversary of the sci-fi film Flash Gordon.

He played Prince Vultan in the space opera and his "Gordon's alive!?" line  was so emphatic it became a bit of a cult hit all by itself.

Brian said: "I'm an honourary Wallace, I don't know if that's condemning myself to say that.

"I made the film Robert the Bruce and directed half of it.

"Scotland is so dear to me, it's God's country. Edinburgh I think is the most beautiful city in the world.

"It's got to be hasn't it? So wonderful and artistic."

He added he was going to have a "bloody marvellous time"

The 83-year-old is also known for his Shakespearean work and voiced Boss Nass in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Comic Con Scotland takes place on October 10 and 11 at the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston.

Brian may also be attending the Edinburgh Film Festival earlier in the year but no fan events have been announced for this.

The convention will be announcing other high-profile guests in the coming days.

Last year stars included Jean Claude Van Damme, actors from Sons of Anarchy and WWE's The Undertaker.
