Brian Baldinger: Daniel Jones ‘one of the greatest athletes’ to play QB for Giants

New York Giants draft pick Daniel Jones has his fair share of critics, but NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger is not one of them.

Shortly after the 2019 NFL Draft, the former NFL offensive lineman did a film breakdown on Jones highlighting the horrendous talent that surrounded him at Duke and how he was able to make the most of it.

The breakdown flew in the face of what many of Jones’ critics had been saying, but Baldy later took it a step further and offered Big Blue’s newest quarterback one of the greatest compliments possible late last week.

“Look, people want to question whether he was worth the sixth pick in the draft or not. I’m just going to tell you, when he played at Duke, he did not play with NFL-caliber player,” Baldinger said.

“This guy is a good athlete. . . . I think he’s one of the greatest athletes to ever play quarterback for the Giants. You might have to go back to Y.A. Tittle to find a guy who can move like that.”

In the new era of NFL football, athleticism at the quarterback position is a must. And while the Giants will still emphasize success within the pocket, they also recognize that on occasion, their quarterback will need to break out of some sacks, take off and run or improvise when a play breaks down.

Daniel Jones can do that. In fact, he mastered it at Duke because he had to. And if he’s able to glean a good amount of information from Manning, there’s a good chance Jones silences all of his critics when he inevitably takes over under center.
