Brexiteers behind M4 and M5 'go slow' protest say next one will be 'larger'

Brexiteers who attempted to hold a 'go slow' protest on the M5 and M4 have announced plans for a "much larger" blockade despite the low turnout of the first.

Brexit Direct Action, a protest group calling for Britain to leave the EU as planned on March 29, previously urged drivers to  block major motorways on Firday (March 22).

However, there was Brexit 'go slow' on M4 and M5: This is what actually happened and only a small amount in Devon, Cornwall and Exeter during rush hour.

As 10 vehicles moved off from Cornwall at 3.30pm to kick off the protest, organiser Ian Grindod said: “It was never going to be a massive event anyway."

Despite the low turnout, the group have described the event as "extremely successful" and are now hoping to cause "greater impact and disruption" with a bigger event, according to Somerset Live .

The protests on the M5 and M4 on Friday (March 22) were just a 'rehearsal', Brexit Direct Action suggested on Twitter.

Announcing their future plans via Twitter, the group said that they have decided to postpone an event that was planned in Holyhead, Wales, to allow time for Friday's events to sink in and take time to make bigger plans.

They suggested that this event could take place in London.

Brexit Direct Action said: "The Holyhead protest has been cancelled for today (March 23). Something much larger (likely London) is being planned.

"Yesterday's GoSlow was extremely successful as rehearsals go."

Brexit Direct Action claim to have secured funding and said that they'll be revealing their new plans "very soon".

The announcement comes as hundreds of thousands of anti-Brexit supporters from across the country  gather in London in support of the EU.
