Brexiteer MP faces 'traitor' taunts from Leave voter - as he gives TV interview about abuse in politics

A Brexiteer MP was called a 'traitor' by a furious Leave voter in a bad-tempered confrontation that almost perfectly captured the bitterness of the Brexit debacle.

The row was filmed on TV while Monmouth MP David Davies where was being interviewed by BBC Wales outside Parliament before he was approached by the woman.

He was speaking about a rise in abuse against MPs when he was cornered by the angry voter who quickly did her best to demonstrate his point.

The woman does not appear to know that Mr Davies is an MP when she approaches him and is unaware of where he stands on the Brexit debate.

But she goes on to call him a "traitor" when he tells her he is pro-Brexit and voted Leave but also voted for Theresa May's deal.

"You are a liar. You did not vote to leave," she storms.

"Shame on you. You're a traitor. You should feel uncomfortable. You've betrayed 17.4 million people," she adds.

The woman, reported to be 48, also accused the MP of 'being a snowflake' and not a true-Brexiteer.

Hard brexit and soft brexit difference

Mr Davies, who has represented his constituency for five years, has started wearing a body camera in response to any intimidation.

Speaking to the camera, he said: "And that's what you put up with when you're out here all the time."

Welsh Assembly member Alun Davies re-tweeted the video clip and praised the politician for how he handled the incident.

"But we also need a conversation about how we can disagree with each other, have a serious debate and rebuild our politics. In Wales and the UK," he added.

The Monmouth MP replied saying he "100%" agreed.
