Boris Johnson has told the European Union that a request for an extension to the Brexit deadline of October 31 will be sent on Saturday.
Despite Mr Johnson writing to MPs today and and telling them that "further delay is not a solution", the Prime Minister looks to be obeying the law set out by the Benn act.
It came as an amendment tabled by Sir Oliver Letwin passed by 16 votes today, and means that Mr Johnson's deal with the EU cannot be ratified in parliament until all the associated legislation is passed.
Another vote on the deal is expected on Monday. Mr Johnson added: "I will continue to do all I can to get Brexit done on October 31."
