Guy Verhofstadt, the European Parliament’s chief Brexit negotiator, is currently meeting with senior government officials and Theresa May in Downing Street today.
He is expected to warn the Prime Minister to move beyond “vague aspirations” and outline “credible proposals” for Britain’s exit from the European Union.
Mr Verhofstadt, whose visit follows Michel Barnier last month, will also be briefed by UK officials about plans for citizens’ rights and the contentious issue of the Northern Ireland border.
It also comes after David Gauke delivered his first speech as Justice Secretary to announce a fresh crackdown on serious and organised crime in prisons.
