Management at a doughnut chain say the shortage of raw materials affecting the whole of the UK has forced it to temporarily close its stores.
Notts-based Doughnotts – which also has branches in Leicester and Lincoln – said a shortage of the "specialist flour" that goes into its products meant production had had to stop.
A combination of the recent pingdemic forcing workers to stay at home and EU drivers leaving the UK during lockdown and deciding to stay in their homelands due to Brexit has led to widespread shortages.
Many supermarket have been left with empty shelves and fast-food chains have been forced to remove items from their menus.
Steve Murrells, chief executive of the Co-operative Group, said the current food shortages were at a “worse level” than he has ever seen.
Doughnotts initially announced the closures for Tuesday and Wednesday this week – later extending that to Saturday, August 28.
But after a scramble to get hold of the flour, the brand announced it would reopen sooner.
A post on the Doughnotts Instagram account said: "After many phone calls and a day trip to London we’re pleased to say we’ve got flour."
Stores will now reopen on Thursday, August 26, with a new in-store menu as well as an updated Deliveroo menu.
Last week Nandos was forced to close around 50 restaurants, including some in Leicester after it ran out of some food.
A spokesperson said the shortages were caused by "disruption across its supply chain in recent weeks due to staff shortages".
McDonald's is one of the latest fast-food chains to be hit with supply problems this week as all restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales ran out of milkshakes and bottled drinks.
