Far more women believe Britain was wrong to vote to quit the EU than continue to back the referendum result, according to a poll.

The new YouGov survey found that 48 per cent of women say that in hindsight they think the UK was mistaken to vote to splinter away from the European Union, compared with 35 per cent who think it was the right decision, and 16 per cent “don’t know”.

Among men, 50 per cent say it was a “wrong” move and 40 per cent “right”, with 10 per cent “don’t know”.

Anthony Wells, director of political research at You Gov, said: “Among men, the proportion think- ing Brexit was the wrong decision has now reached 50 per cent, with an even larger lead for wrong among women.”

In London, the split is far starker, with 60 per cent saying leaving is “wrong” and less than a quarter saying it is “right”, though the sample size for regions is small.

Overall, the gap between adults in Britain believing it was a mistake to back Brexit has grown to 11 points, to 49 per cent compared to 38 per cent who still say it was the right decision.

This is the second poll in recent days to show a double-digit gap and the move away from Brexit now appears to be accelerating.
