Political leaders have condemned an alleged milkshake attack on an elderly Brexit Party supporter during polling for the European elections.
The man, named locally as 81-year-old armed forces veteran Don MacNaughton, was said to have been sitting outside a polling station in Aldershot when a “youth in his early 20s” drenched him with a milkshake.
Nigel Farage and Heidi Allen, leaders of the Brexit Party and Change UK, both criticised the alleged attacker on Thursday.
It comes after Mr Farage himself was attacked with the dairy drink while campaigning in Newcastle on Monday. It is part of a recent trend of milkshake being thrown over right-wing political figures.
“This is not who we are. Courtesy, respect and tolerance are at the core of our values, let’s all show them.”
Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan added: “This elderly gentleman served in the British armed forces for 22 years.
“Today he was manning a Brexit Party polling station when he was attacked & had milkshake thrown all over him.
“All because he wants the result of a democratic referendum to be honoured.
“Disgusting.”
Mr Farage's Brexit Party is expected to perform strongly in today's poll. An Ipsos MORI survey for the Standard showed the party on 35 per cent.
