Brexit Party MEP has whip withdrawn over 'likely conflict of interest'

A Brexit party MEP has had the whip withdrawn by the party due to a “likely conflict of interest.”

Andrew England Kerr was one of 29 Brexit Party politicians to be elected to the EU‘s European Parliament in May’s elections.

However, a spokesperson has confirmed he is no longer affiliated with the party led by Nigel Farage.

A statement said: “This is due to irreconcilable differences regarding a likely conflict of interest.”

Details of the nature of the conflict were not provided.

A qualified solicitor and director of a law firm, the 61-year-old who represents the West Midlands is also a senior partner at Englands Estate Agents, where his wife is company director.

He also erves as Englands Safety ltd, which specialises in the design and supply of equipment to law enforcement agencies and special forces worldwide.

The company has won national awards including Queen’s Awards, Prime Minister’s Millennium Product awards and DTI SMART awards.

In his role in the European Union, he sits as a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy as well as part of the EU’s Delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan, EU-Tajikistan and EU-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and for relations with Turkmenistan and Mongolia.
