Downing Street has said the country has been left in crisis after Theresa May’s Brexit deal was defeated by MPs in the Commons.
A spokesman for the Prime Minister said Mrs May had warned that Britain would be in crisis if her divorce deal was rejected by MPs for the second time, adding: “That situation has now come to pass.”
It comes after Commons Speaker John Bercow dealt a significant blow to Mrs May’s Brexit plans by ruling there cannot be a third “meaningful vote” without substantial changes.
Ministers had a “full discussion” about the ruling in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday afternoon, with the PM's spokesman adding that there was “an absolute determination" to find a way for Parliament to vote to leave the EU with a deal.
